MAY 5-7: Maja and Marko in Florida- THE BIG IDEA

True to the Thuy’s Milonga philosophy, this weekend is focused on providing a super friendly, cozy-yet-elegant, "feel good" environment to create a 'mini-festival' (not a huge 'mega event.')

. . . to immerse in the BEAUTY OF SOCIAL DANCING:

. . . improvising while discovering a music as though we hear it for the first time in-the-moment with a dance partner, in a state of wonder about how the next moment will unfold

. . . to dance with feeling (not get stuck in an 'expectation box' or dance to 'impress')

. . . guest teachers Maja Petrovic and Marko Miljevic exemplify this social dancing concept-the 6 classes spread out over 2 days connect together to help us build out the beauty of our dancing experience AS A WHOLE. As a bonus, our close friend maestro Jorge Mendoza will help us all feel good after traveling and connect to our tango bodies on Friday night in a pre-milonga class (completely free of charge!)

. . . during the 3 milongas, top, nationally renown tango dj’s will do their best to ‘electrify’ us and entice us into a musical journey every night

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Maja Petrovic and Marko Miljevic will teach an intensive, in-depth course consisting of 6 classes over 2 days. (see the class schedule, below)
  • as of April 19, registration has run close to being ‘gender balanced.’ Great dancers from as far away as S-FL, TX, KY, AR, PA, SC, NC, NY, WA are registered for the classes- but if you want to join, there are still a few spots left!!! (registration for the milongas is not limited)
  • Popular, internationally reknown tango dj's Koichiro Suzuki and El Espejero are both known for expertly attuning to the dancers and keep the floor packed with energy by building an irresistable music journey with the dancers
  • Sunday's house milonga has now become essential tradition-those who attended the 2022 "Weekend of Tango Over-Indulgence" remembered it with particualr fondlness. . . THIS YEAR, Mark Mindel, organizer of Queen City Tango Festival will be our house dj!!! Rsvp is required, and priority given to all full-pass participants
  • Further inspiration will be offered in the form of woman’s tango fashion and (men’s and women’s) footwear by Mussa Designs
  • Delicious food will be provided at each of the milongas by Thuy Carroll
  • The venue for all the events (except the house milonga) is Rena's Ballroom at 720 NW 23rd Avenue, Gainesville FL
  • We are extending the 10% "early bird" discount indefinitely, (the discount is reflected in the prices that are listed here)
